Are there any consequences (future employment etc) for having a restraining order against you?

There was an altercation with my son's grandfather and myself. I put my hands on him in an attempt to get him off my property. He threatened me with physical violence 3 times. Today I received papers for a hearing for a restraining order my son's mom filed for. Now I do not care if I have to stay 100 yards away from her at all times but she also checked the box that would keep me from my sons school. She has continued to try and keep from going to his school for no reason other than she wants to be in control of all that goes on (she yelled at me for going to his first day of school) Now I have to make a choice on whether to pay my tuition and be able to continue attending school this fall or use that money on an attorney. If there are no future repercussions such as employment or it working against me when I go back to court for more custody then I am perfectly fine with representing myself. I would also like advice on how to get out of having to stay away from my sons school, I am a father who likes to be very involved with my son and this would be terrible. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
